Your friendly neighborhood turtle nerd.

I spend my free time documenting turtles in the wild and acting as a board member for the Turtle Race Task Force. Our current goal to research turtle races across the United States and publish our findings with the hope of regulating their effects on wild populations. I've also supported efforts by the Trinity River Turtle Survey, Texas Turtles, and even Sea Turtles, Inc. While my area of expertise is turtles and tortoises of North America, I will occasionally dabble in other things like insects or birds and, of course, turtles and tortoises found elsewhere in the world. I don't have a professional camera but that doesn't keep me from getting good shots in the field. My tools of the trade include my Galaxy S10+, my monocular (doubling as both a spotting tool and a camera lens for close up shots), and of course, iNaturalist. On the app, I spend much of my time verifying IDs on observations, particularly in Texas, though I don't limit myself to any particular region. I also make efforts to learn from community IDs while further using that knowledge to help other users correctly identify their own observations. We're all here for the science, so by all means, please feel free to leave your own opinions on my observations. It'll make for a good learning opportunity for us all.

New species peronally documented this year:

Eastern Musk Turtle (Sternotherus odoratus)
Ouachita Map Turtle (Graptemys ouachitensis)

Species I hope to find this year:

Mississippi Mud Turtle (Kinosternon subrubrum hippocrepis)
Yellow Mud Turtle (Kinosternon flavescens)
Midland Smooth Softshell Turtle (Apalone mutica mutica)
Texas Diamondback Terrapin (Malaclemys terrapin littoralis)
