Fischer, Eberhard, Bastian Schäferhoff, and Kai Müller. "The phylogeny of Linderniaceae—The new genus Linderniella, and new combinations within Bonnaya, Craterostigma, Lindernia, Micranthemum, Torenia and Vandellia." Willdenowia 43.2 (2013): 209-238.

Legazpia Blanco, Fl. Filip., ed. 2: 338. 1845. – type: L. triptera Blanco [= L. polygonoides (Benth.) t. Yamaz.]. 1. Legazpia polygonoides (Benth.) t. Yamaz. in J. Jap. Bot. 30: 359. 1955 ≡ Torenia polygonoides Benth., scro- ph. ind.: 39. 1835. = Legazpia mucronulata (Benth.) t. Yamaz. in J. Jap. Bot. 30: 359. 1955 ≡ Torenia mucronulata Benth. in can- dolle, Prodr. 10: 409. 1846. = Legazpia triptera Blanco, Fl. Filip., ed. 2: 339. 1845. Distribution — cambodia, laos, Vietnam, thailand, Micronesia, new Guinea. Legazpia polygonoides has bothrospermous seeds. it is closely related to Torenia, but differs in the suborbicu- lar calyx with 3 broad wings between the ridges, auricu- late at base and 3-dentate at apex (Fischer 2004). Torenia has a calyx with 5 wings.

Legazpia polygonoides is not a synonym. On the contrary, Torenia polygonoides is a synonym of L. polygonoides.

Which is a synonym of which is a matter of debate. Fischer et al. (2013) retained the name Legazpia based on lack of evidence rather than evidence for separation. "It
is closely related to Torenia, but differs in the suborbicular calyx with 3 broad wings between the ridges, auriculate at base and 3-dentate at apex (Fischer 2004). Torenia
has a calyx with 5 wings." These are not strong characters to separate a monotypic genus. Plantsoftheworldonline aims at maximizing informativeness of classification and, thus, tries to reduce monotypic genera if there is no strong evidence for separation.
