Birds were my gateway drug to all my fellow Earthlings. In 2019, I added observations spanning about a decade of natural history wanderings, mostly but not exclusively in New York City. I also blog about natural history at http://matthewwills.com and, occasionally, at http://medium.com/me/stories/public. I lead bird and insect walks for various groups and places.: https://matthewwills.com/tours-and-adventures/

If it was planted, yesterday or a century ago, by people, it's not considered a wild species for iNaturalist purposes. This is why I marked that street tree or house plant observation as a "casual."

About trees in the city see: https://www.inaturalist.org/journal/matthew_wills

I started a Birds of New York City project: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/birds-of-new-york-city

To keep track of damselflies and dragonflies in NYC, I set up the Odonata of New York City project. https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/odonata-of-new-york-city

I have contributed permitted samples for research to Forbes Lab, University of Iowa; Danforth Lab, Cornell University; Department of Biology, Ghent University, Belgium; and the Royal Albert Museum, Edmonton; all facilitated via iNatualist. I also participated in iNat's ID accuracy Experiments 0 .3 and 0.4
