I worked in academia in microbiology, gene technology and biotechnology before retiring. I have photographed most of the birds that occur or are vagrant in Germany, and consider myself fairly expert in that area. 2020 I started a 'Garden Safari' project in my own little garden and close by and was amazed that I was finding a new species every day! I will continue this and go a little further afield, turning the whole into a book while blogging for the family and aiding local wild life efforts ( wild bees and ornithology ). I found it particularly interesting that there is so much parasitism and predation, i.e. such a large number of species with this specialisation, like 'cuckoo' bees and wasps. Presumably these feed-back controls are important in maintaining an harmonic balance.
