Trametes versicolor (also known as Cariolus versicolor, Polyporus versicolor, and Turkey tail) is a type of fungus which is classified as a polypore mushroom. The term versicolor means several colors. Therefore, describing that this fungus has multiple different colors. Turkey tail mushrooms contain multiple kinds of antioxidants, including phenols and flavonoids. These antioxidants promote immune sytem health by reducing inflammation and stimulating the release of protective compounds. Trametes versicolor also contains Krestin (PSK) and Polysaccharide Peptide (PSP) which are two types of polysaccharopeptides. Both of these protein-bound polysaccharides (carbohydrates) have powerful immune-boosting properties which promote immune response by activating and inhibiting certain types of immune cells as well as by surpressing inflammation. Therefore, the edible properties of these mushrooms (in powder form), can lead to the medical treatment of inflammation.
