Out at Farmington Bay I saw this road killed Long-tailed Weasel in its winter coat. poor little guy. he must have really stood out in this coat because it was almost 60F and no snow for many miles.
We have both Long-tailed and Short-tailed Weasels(Stoats) locally, both turn white in winter. Short-tailed are uncommon and only found at high elevations, Long-tailed are common and widespread at all elevations. Our Short-tailed are the smallest in the world, nearly as small as a Least Weasel. The large size and tail length over 1/4 the body length ID this weasel as a Long-tailed.
