we caught 8 of these all about 12" long in the span of about 30-45 minutes in the surf, including this double. From what I've read, these are likely newly birthed and this is possibly their first meal.

This observation coincided with an unusual event of lots of red seaweed washing up in the waves at this beach.
After looking at other records up and down this coast, my best guess is Southern Fiddler.
