E. oregonus seems likely, but this was a very small pool on bedrock (lots of tannins, but no vegetstion) rather than the relatively large forest pools I've seen them in elsewhere. Also very small

Emerged from some decaying leaves. Got some video of him pausing, waving his legs slowly, pumping abdomen/ thorax and wings were seemingly “unfurling”.

First observed at ~7:30am from Harling Point with spotting scope as it came barreling in off the Victoria waterfront (from ~250-300m away). As it came closer I realized it was actually a bat! By that time it had almost made it to land right in front of me. Camera was ready by the time it eventually made it.

One of my field assistants caught this with his bare hands. From my field notes: "While Matayu and I sat down for lunch and were waiting for Tom to join us, we started hearing a strange crying sound, and then Tom appeared carrying a duiker! He caught it with his hands. Based on the Kingdon Field Guide to African Mammals, I think it might have been Harvey's Duiker. It was a young male. I have video and pictures of it."

Its carrying a baby around.. not sure what it is doing with it . Do bats eat their young ? It flew around the yard during the day and then returned to the original place in porch . Adult was making motions that were either licking or chewing.
