Each fall, Northern Map Turtles get together. They come from all over Opinicon Lake to meet where they will spend the winter months under the ice. From November to April, they are nowhere to be seen. What are they doing under the surface of the water? Under the ice? Contrary to common belief, they are not just buried in the muck waiting for spring. In this talk we will learn more about what Map Turtles do before and after winter.

Chaque automne, les tortues géographiques du lac Opinicon se rassemblent. Elles se rencontrent à l’endroit où elles vont passer l’hiver, sous la glace. Et là, de novembre à avril, on ne les voit plus du tout. Mais que font-elles sous la surface, sous la couche de glace? Contrairement à la croyance populaire, elles ne font pas juste attendre le printemps enfouies dans la boue. Lors de cette présentation, nous allons découvrir ce que les tortues géographiques font avant, pendant et après l’hiver.

Ce webinaire en anglais est présenté par la Fédération canadienne de la faune (FCF) avec comme conférencier invité, M. Greg Bulté, professeur de biologie à l’Université Carleton.
