Sixty Degrees Cooler

The temperature this morning was 7 degrees F, sixty degrees cooler than the high temperature on Monday, five days ago. Quite a reversal in weather, but certainly not unusual for springtime in Minnesota.

When I see Ostrich Ferns, especially the dried fertile fronds in winter, I think of fiddleheads. And when I think of fiddleheads I recall a wonderful lunch at the home of John and Edith Rylander near Gray Eagle, Minnesota. I was travelling with the Persian poet Ferydoun Faryad, on our way to a reading in Fargo, North Dakota, mid May, 2011. Luckily we had enough time for this side trip to visit with John who spoke Farsi and Edith another poet. That splendid lunch included fiddlehead ferns, tuna-pasta salad spiced with wild onion, and homemade bread. Then fresh rhubarb sauce over vanilla ice-cream for dessert.

I am really enjoying your journal posts, Scott. Perhaps due to the phenomenon of "too much social media" in my life, I wish there was also a quick way to indicate that I have read and enjoyed the post, such as a 'like" feature which might help you ascertain more readily that you are indeed reaching an audience. Thanks for all the effort you put into them. I suspect there are several others like myself who are reading them regularly. Cheers!

Thanks, Dennis. I'm trying to keep the posts relevant and interesting and it's good to hear that the posts are reaching a few people. I'll try to keep them going; hopefully my pen can keep up with the impending spring. All best!
