This October saw a new monthly record of 16,150 observations covering 2,384 species from a total of 532 observers. The previous record having been set at 13,829 during September 2020 which included the Great Southern BioBlitz 2020. There were 128 species receiving their first iNat record in SA. This month there were 103 new observers contributing their first observations in SA. Upon this months observations, 596 identifiers contributed a total of 28,827 identifications.
Uploads for SA at the end of September stand at 261,694 observations of 8,274 species from 3,785 observers with, as of today, 4,332 identifiers providing 476,315 identifications.
The Great Southern BioBlitz 2021 has wrapped up and final identification are being made. In its second year, observations have more than doubled to over 180,000, observers are up 78% to over 5,700 and species are up by 67% to over 20,000! In SA we had a similar level of participation over the BioBlitz 4 days as the previous year with around 6,400 observations of 1,200 species by 235 observers.
