An entomologist / lepidopterist / moth enthusiast living in Alberta who enjoys all things that go buzz in the night, especially moths. My true passion is doing park inventories of lepidoptera as well as other biota. I spend summer collecting and winters curating, identifying lepidoptera specimens and writing reports.

By day, I am the acting Provincial Entomologist for the Alberta Governments Department of Agriculture and Forestry. My role is primarily focused on the policy and insect diagnostics.

Outside my day job, I work on species at risk evaluations for moths and butterflies of Canada. I recently completed evaluations of the moths and butterflies of the Yukon, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. And in past years I did this work for Lepidoptera in Newfoundland and Labrador, Alberta and the Erebidae of Canada. I also keep an ongoing list for Alberta, Newfoundland, Labrador and Saskatchewan that is updated monthly.

I am a co-author of the recent 2018 "Annotated Checklist of the Moths and Butterflies (Lepidoptera) of Canada and Alaska" and the "Garden bugs of Alberta," "Garden Bugs of British Columbia" and the "Garden Bugs of Ontario."

I have done a fair amount of inventory work of Lepidoptera of Newfoundland and Labrador as well. I hope to eventually publish a checklist for the province.

As for winter life, I spend my evenings curating my research collection of over 12,000 inventoried specimens. My goal is to share all the data with researchers, taxonomists and conservation organizations. I am working towards having all records of unique specimens and their locality data uploaded to iNatualist.
