I teach Environmental Studies at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky, lead outdoor and conservation-themed workshops for a variety of local nonprofit organizations, and am a PhD student at Bellarmine in the Education and Social Change program. My academic interests include exploring ways that more people can play active roles in the scientific process to achieve positive ecological outcomes. Citizen science projects like iNaturalist are one of the ways we can meet that goal.

Although a native of Louisville, I gained my naturalist skills in North Cascades National Park of Washington State. There I studied at North Cascades Institute and Western Washington University and worked as a ranger for the National Park Service. Now that I have returned to the urban temperate broadleaf forest, I see many possibilities for how we can more actively consider the non-human parts of our communities in order to better our own lives.
