Field Journal 5: Roundleaf Greenbrier

Date: March 29, 2021
Location: John H. Chafee Rome Point Preserve, Narragansett Rhode Island, USA
Time: 12:45 pm- 1:00pm EST
Habitat: rocky, woods, it was a place that had hiking trails, so there were a lot of people walking around.

In the two locations that I observed, the Roundlead Greenbrier was abundant in both and by far the most dominant species in both of these areas. It had a lot of sharp thorns around it and was pretty thin and green. It seemed to be very much entangled with itself, and it did not seem where this was coming from out of the ground because of how clumped and clustered it was together. They seemed to be located near the trees that were observed and close to the edge of the trail, close to where people walk at which is interesting.

Field Journal 4: White Oak

Date: March 29, 2021
Location: John H. Chafee Rome Point Preserve, Narragansett Rhode Island, USA
Time: 12:45 pm- 1:00pm EST
Habitat: rocky, woods, it was a place that had hiking trails, so there were a lot of people walking around.

In the other location that I observed in the Point Preserve in Narragansett, White Oak trees were abundant in the given area. Some were taller, and others were shorter, and all of their leaves have fallen and surrounded the trees. The trees had a smaller diameter than other trees in the area, and a lot of the trees had either no branches off the trees or did but were not long and looked strong and supportive. The trees also had a layer of lichens on them.

Field Journal 3: Wild Daffodil

Date: March 29, 2021
Location: John H. Chafee Rome Point Preserve, Narragansett Rhode Island, USA
Time: 12:45 pm- 1:00pm EST
Habitat: rocky, woods, it was a place that had hiking trails, so there were a lot of people walking around.

There were a lot of these Wild Daffodils that were located in the area that I was observing. The Wild Daffodils were pretty grown except that were lacking the flower formation but still had some decent growth and formation. They were pretty abundant in the area that I was looking at. They were not super close to each other but still were within a close range of one another. Some of the Wild Daffodils were at different stages of their growth, and some had more defined and larger leaves than others. They were also super close to the edge of the trail where people walk by, which I found to be interesting.

Field Journal 2: Hairy Bittercress

Date: March 29, 2021
Location: John H. Chafee Rome Point Preserve, Narragansett Rhode Island, USA
Time: 12:45 pm- 1:00pm EST
Habitat: rocky, woods, it was a place that had hiking trails so there were a lot of people walking around.

When I was walking along the trail at the Point Reserve in Narragansett there were not many of the Hairy Bittercress around the area. There was only this small clump and another one not too far away, but the abundance was very low overall in the area that I observed. It seemed to have sprouted pretty recently given its small structure and size. They were these small clumps that did not have a whole lot to them, but it was still early in spring when this observation was collected, and the plant has probably grown more and to more abundance since this observation was recorded.

Field Journal 1: Perennial Ryegrass

Date: March 29, 2021
Location: John H. Chafee Rome Point Preserve, Narragansett Rhode Island, USA
Time: 12:45 pm- 1:00pm EST
Habitat: rocky, woods, it was a place that had hiking trails so there were a lot of people walking around.

When I was walking on the trail on the side, there were little Perennial Ryegrass clumps. These clumps were not close to each other, and they were all along the trail. They were near the Wild Daffodil, but they were still were not near or interacting with any other species. The species was pretty green, and most of the little clumps has just started to grow and sprout while others were a bit more grown and formed. The ones that were grown a bit taller were the ones that had a bit more direct sunlight than the others, which I think might be important to note.
