A nine-year old observation. I remember thinking Dactylorhiza viridis while in the field, but now I'm not so sure. Rich talus with sugar maple-hickory overstory. @Catullus, @Arethusa, @threepogonias, @karro_frost
The iNat system is pretty sure it's a Dicanthelium. Among the top suggestions, only Velvet Panicgrass is in that genus and it's listed first. But the photos in the species account don't look like mine.
The BONAP/GoBotany range map states that this species is native to Nantucket, but Sorrie & Dunwiddie didn't include it and I've never found a Nantucket voucher, (though there are a couple vouchers on CNH with county data redacted). 6 leaves/plants, quite small. Trail edge in wet Nyssa sylvatica and red maple woods with Carex and wintergreen. I'll add it to my Heritage Hub submissions "to do" list. If anyone knows of other Nantucket sightings, I'd love that info for the Nantucket Flora database.
