•Habitat: Roadside along forest edge, near small stream, growing in the leaves of Aruncus dioicus.
•Dominate over story: Alnus rubra, Thuja plicata, Pseudotsuga menziessi, and Populus trichocarpa.
•Plant associations: Aruncus dioicus
•Flowers: Present
•ID confirmed with “Plants of the Pacific Northwest Coast” by Pojar and MacKinnon

Sunny in a conifer forest with no cloud cover. 70 degrees. Partially shaded by over story. It’s fruiting, the leaves were soft, and the scent was very lightly sweet (if anything at all, but then again I don’t think my nose works that well…)

Overstory: P. menziesii, A. macrophyllum.
Diagnostic features: Leaves arranged spiraling but aligned flat. Thin, scaly, reddish bark.
Phenology: New foliage fully developed. Not yet flowering/fruiting

The habitat is an open field surrounded by Douglas Fir, Dogwood and Western Red Cedar. The specimen was growing among white Clover and Burdock.
The specimen is in a flowering state. Although, most pedals have fallen off. I couldn't find a specimen that had all or most pedals still attached.
The weather during observation was sunny, calm and low 90's.
Identified with iNaturalist, but only to Genus.

Description: Small-medium sized pleurocarp forming complanate glossy mat.

Found at Mount St. Helens on a rock substrate, white awns present with a rusty brown base.

Weather: Overcast and rainy, with warm sun breaks. 53F
Habitat: Forest-prairie transition zone. PSME overstory; hazel, sword-fern, red huckle understory.
Substrate: Corylus cornuta branch.
Notes: Leafy liverwort; brown-red in color, some tip growth green. Nubby side brnches about 1mm long. Sporophyte 4-lobed, subtended by leaves so that seta barely extends. Plants seem to be dioicous. Water sacs visible under microscope.

Substrate: Rocky soil.
Notes: Acrocarp; short turf, plants to 2.5cm. Leaves spirally arranged; lanceolate; green above, purple below; clusters at top .5cm of plant. Long, white, squiggly awns distinctive. Papery calyptra and 4-angled capsule. Clumps seemingly separated by sex.
