@sawyer_n_a_dawson starts at 0:17 sounds like some kind of hawk or eagle to me. Thoughts?
Not the blue jay or white throated sparrow
Do I hear a northern flicker in the background? I’ve already recorded a red bellied woodpecker so I’d like to log a different bird on this observation if possible.
I'm looking for a black bird with a notched tail. I thought crow, but the crow's tail is more square. I'm fairly certain it was this same bird that also flew directly over me and it did not look right for a crow. In addition, I heard new bird sounds this morning. The Rusty Blackbird is not one of my regulars, though it's been here once before. I only got two photos before it flew off and this is the best one. It's heavily cropped. I will also post the original and the poorer quality photos in case any of it is helpful.
Listen for the bird that becomes quite clear at about :18. I'm not sure what all I hear earlier, other than my cat and city noises.
I am seeing more House Sparrows since mid-summer when the young birds came out than ever before. In the past, they kept to the other end of the property and the other side of the street, but I notice that the neighbour above me put up a feeder that they like.
With English-speaking birders I explain as best I can without damaging human relationships that House Sparrows are invasive species that hurt native birds. But to explain to this neighbour I have to cross language barriers. Too much opportunity for misunderstanding and hurt feelings. She and I have a good relationship. I don't want to damage that.
Listen for one-syllable beat call about two per second, evenly spaced, from Min :09 to :19. Also Blue Jay, Northern Cardinal chip call.
