Crossing a paved road in dry forest where there is a high density of fer-de-lance.
This is the "Bamboo poison frog" from formerly known as Dendrobates biolat and now reclassified. It is an extremely small range endemic to the western Amazon lowlands, restricted to patches of giant bamboo. It was just described by science in 1992. These guys spend 90% of their lives within the interior water-logged bamboo compartments. They're super fascinating--but no touching.
Single individual photographed in habitat. This individual exhibits slight phenotypic variation from the typical "morph" seen in the pet trade. This individual was observed from a previously unknown population.
