SRK1231
On sandy beach.
Freeport, Brazoria Co.
Collected with Elizabeth Rosenauer (before she became my wife!)
Although there were no evidence of acorns, this tree has the leaves of a live oak. Dissimilar to live oak however, is the ashy colors and patterns in the bark. Galls were frequent on the branches. No evidence of thorns, and it was not grown in a thicket.
Elizabeth, Brent, Brian, and I put up the moth lights here and spotted more insects than I've ever seen before -- there were swarms of aquatic beetles, mayflies, and many other bugs. :) It was great, but it was also pretty hard to get a good picture. :-/
I'll work on ID's for these critters later with the discovery life moth guide and some other resources...
