After attending a Milam Co. Genealogical Society Meeting at the library and a quick trip into the grocery store, I explored the plants in the mowed median between the small town shopping center and the highway.
I’ve always identified this as Bermuda grass, but it is super tall.
A moderate stand found on the north side of the South Fence Line Trail near the second house. The area was severely burned in 2022. Pre-fire it was Pinus taeda/Quercus stellata woodland. Dead trees were removed near the trail approx 6 months ago. The soil is mapped as Axtell fine sandy loam. Full sun and standing dead trees.
Associated plants: Erigeron canadensis, Baccharis neglecta, Callicarpa americana, Digitaria ciliaris, Croton lindheimeri, Steinchisma hians.
While in the area, I made a visit to the park. I need to spend a day here when the temperatures cool down. It is exhilarating to be in a city park that is not mowed from fence line to fence line. I really want to spend more time on the grasses along the Yaupon Loop pathway. but not particularly this one.
