This specimen is 99 percent intact and was after finding a 85% intact specimen a few minutes earlier. This becomes a little suspicious after finding only fragments for 12 months. The seas had been big and had only just calmed down and I did also find the most intact Ancillista velisiana ever (for me) on the same run....so...I will claim it as legitimate.
My suspicion is regarding the fact that there is a shell tent at the Surfer's market that sells ficus shells for $3 ea. I wondered if somebody discarded their ficus after losing interest...I went back later and checked the merchant's ficus hoard and there were no ficus ficus so I was satisfied my 2 finds that day were legitimate beachcast shells.
Small brown with many ‘arm’ like protrusions. Found underwater in shallow pools.
