One very cute little fella! All alone as far as I could tell. Hanging out under a buoy. Not very big, maybe 6 in and brilliantly colored! Had a few sea lice on the side shown in one of the pictures. About 6 ft deep, 2 hours after low tide. Water temp 14°
So very exciting to see my first one while snorkeling with friends (Lauren, Andrea, Jeremy and Andrew)
Seen while snorkeling, in a deep area but very close to surface. Of the many hundreds of things floating in the water that day I was only able to locate one of these so all pictures are of one particular individual. Did not appear to move too much but the tentacles extended and retracted and the dongle looking thing inside the bell moved around in the waves and w as only attached at the top. Very strange creature indeed!
Never seen anything like this before! That day I saw maybe 25 individuals, some with rounder tops and some was slightly pointy tops. All remind me of an empty snow globe so I have been calling them snow globe jellies. Very difficult to take a photograph of. Jelly like pumping squeezing in and out in the colorful base sometimes causing the top to get bigger or smaller. Lots of movement. Mostly small, an inch in size not including tentacles. One or two larger ones 5 in Max. Bottom fancy row of tentacles extended sometimes quite far and we're much more noticeable when retracted. Perhaps they are not all the same creature? The innards do look a bit different on the rounder ones. Really not too sure. Would be interested to hear your comments, if you had ever seen anything similar
Missing the one big arm. Seen while snorkeling, was under the sand until I thought to take a picture of it's speckled back... then boom! Jumped up ready to attack me with the one arm. I laughed so hard.
