This was low to the ground, not a tree - there were several in the area - all similarly sized.

Lacewing eggs on grass.
One of a local flock of about 20 or more who visit our forest some early mornings and share their raucous delight in the day with us! Love it...
Thought at first grubs but now perhaps eggs. The group measures about 10mm at longest part.
I imagine it was trying to warm up after a week of flooding rain.
Observed on weeds near the Hunter River.
