One of the largest ones seen for the day. The first one seen out in the open as well. All the rain drove them out today which made me happy.
Open powerline right-of-way through upland sandhill woodland. Powerline corridor broadcast sprayed with herbicide the previous year. This had a major impact to what was a fairly stable and very diverse grassland/shrubland community by decimating the shrubs and conservative forbs. But this species was unscathed, and appeared happier than ever, I think because the waxy leaves resisted the herbicide.
