This specimen was caught in a mid-water trawl near the confluence of the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers by USFWS's Delta Juvenile Fish Monitoring Program.
This is one of the most common native cyprinid species caught in mid-water trawls by the USFWS's Delta Juvenile Fish Monitoring Program.
This East Asian smelt was introduced to the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta in the 1950's as a forage species for native trout. They are now considered a threat to the endangered delta smelt due to their ability to hybridize. This specimen was caught during the USFWS's Enhanced Delta Smelt Monitoring Program.
