Conditions were clear sky’s, sunny, moderate wind.
Dominant over story was Psudotsuga menzesii understory was various including various bryophytes.
Habitat is temperate evergreen forest.
Characteristics are two different growth form shown in third photo with one form being short standing upright and other growth form hangs long from branches.

Two in tall bryophyte with branches on top like a tree. Leucolepis? On a very large fallen hardwood tree by a creek on the f lot trail. Sporophytes long and dark orange.
Associations: Acer macrophyllum, Rubus spectabilis, Thuja plicata, Alnus rubra

• leafy liverwort life form, growing very appressed to substrate. growing in direct proximity to Scapania spp.
• dorsal leaves succoubously arranged, yellowish-green, 3 lobed with lobes triangular, plane origin, margin entire and elimbate, surface smooth, 4-7 cells thick at base, divided nearly 50% of width
• ventral under leaves four-lobed, small, divided less than half their width, and sparse up branch
• leaf cells squarrose to hexagonal
• Plant associations: P. munitum, G. shallon, A. macrophyllum, I. aquifolium, A. circinatum. 7-10 oil bodies per cell when present.

Location: In TESC Forest EEON plot C-4 near Marine Dr. Thurston County, WA 98502
Weather: Shaded area but warm and sunny weather, around 70F, no precipitation
Habitat: Conifer dominated overstory mostly THPL and PSME with sparse understory of mostly POMU and MANE. Very shaded and somewhat moist despite dry conditions.
This moss was found growing on the trunk of a PSME as an acrocarpous cushion type moss. Color is olive to evergreen. Leaves are very linear and tapering at the tip. Slightly serrated at tip. Alar cells slightly inflated and orange/brown. Leaves are curled when dry unlike other Dicranum species that often remain straight.

Substrate: Corticolous
Ecology: Mature upland mesic forest/woodland. Numerous streams/seeps. Mixed dominance. Full canopy cover.
Associations: Lepidozia reptans, Thuja plicata
Description: Leafy liverwort. Succubous leaf insertion. Lacking under leaves. Smaller dorsal lobes. Dentate leaf margins on both ventral and dorsal lobes.

Notes: Very excited to see the sporophytes on this one!! Really the primary reason for this observation. Apologies for some of the substandard photos.

Habitat is a moist hillside with Equisetum, Sword-fern, Maiden-fern, Bracken-fern, Salmonberry, Big Leaf Maple, Western Red-Cedar, Red Alder.
Specimen was found on a fallen rotting, unidentified tree trunk. It is located on the Northeast face above a gravel ditch along the Cedar River Trail, roughly 150' North of the Riverside Park in Renton, King County, WA. This area is a moist habitat near the Cedar River Trail and many ponds.

This moss was found on the side of a Big Leaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum) on the side of a paved trail just off of Lot B at The Evergreen State College. This area was inhabited by a lot of big leaf maple, with some conifers residing throughout. There was a high population of other bryophytes and vascular plants nearby, but this patch of moss was relatively solitary.
This patch sat about 8 ft of the ground, and was about 12 x 9" in size. All specimens in this patch were dry so they curled into a downward fiddlehead shape. These specimens were dendroid in growth form and deep evergreen in color.

Habitat: In Acer macrophyllum dominated stand; just off the edge of a lesser used parking lot due to current world events
Weather: Clear skies; sunny and very warm out; 65F

• Overcast when collected, started to rain just afterward.
• Collected in a residential area from a street tree. Same species, along with a few species of liverwort, covered this and nearby trees.
• Seems to have grown in a singular clump on its own, rooted to the bark of the tree. Brown base, light green tip. Very dry.
