Was moving across the trail that was flooded and flowing slowly. Didn't seem able/willing to fly. Put it on a manzanita bush after pictures.

No picture, about four inches long. Slender. Green with black spots. On sidewalk headed towards certain death. Relocated to wet, shaded area in the channel below.

Emaciated and covered in warts, mouth partially open, clearly unheathy. Found immediately adjacent to (under the same log) completely smooth skinned, healthy adult.

The habitat was a wooded riparian strip along a levee adjacent to agricultural fields at the edge of the Sacramento Bypass Wildlife Area.

Could be a yellow morph of C. elegans - given range and deep yellow coloration of C. monophyllus that's probably what this is.

This was the most exciting find of the day. My assumption is that this turtle just emerged after overwintering in its nest (we've seen them do this up in Lake County). We found this little friend at a relatively newly constructed restoration site, and it's super cool to know that these native turtles are able to breed here!

Some of you have asked about this picture. THe Salamanders are in the creek that runs about ten feet in front of my home. Having the four sons I do they often go into the creek looking for Salamanders in and under the rocks. They like to see the variance in morphology and other interesting things. When they have a bunch like this they call me and ask for a picture as I took here. They then let them all go back into the rock where they found them until the next time they are bored enough to get into the creek. SO this is not a natural aggregation as found in the picture but more a picture of all the salamanders caught in a ten-foot-long part of the creek in about an hour.
