I think this observation will be the 4th observation of a striped whipsnake in the Death Valley region. Anyone know why they aren’t really found out here? Are they mostly high elevation snakes?

This appears to be a rattlesnake but interestingly, it is missing its rattle. Found in Tecolote Canyon Natural Park.

Found deceased on the side of the trail.

Gopher Snake found its way up the Mt Whitney fish hatchery to a spot where European Starlings were nesting in a hole and got a baby bird to eat.

We observed the snake at the base of a Manzanita before it proceeded to go full arboreal and climbed 12 feet or so off of the ground. very interesting behavior...

Basking in the sand about 9 am. Near location. Calm.

A desert striped whipsnake with recently caught prey in mouth. When I first spotted it, the rodent was still alive and moving. A truly incredible find

This young snake senses the air with it's tongue when I make large movements. It seems to never move it's tongue when I'm looking at it holding my camera and staying still.

Two snakes coiled together. The larger one was over 3 feet and very fat. Possibly gravid? The smaller one was 20 to 24 inches. Temperature about 70. Open grassland. Could this breeding behavior?

Super cool to see this thing in a bush! 71 degree evening.

This is probably the biggest Rattlesnake I have seen personally!! She was a Bute!!
