Site Description: Next to trail near water tank Locality: Forest Park Openspace Associated Species: Berberis nervosa
This beautiful plant is Epipactus gigantea, with stems of multiple peach-colored orchids. It's called Giant Hellborine. There were just a few patches of these plants with a total of about 40 stems growing near the path and close to Lake Crescent at 580' in semi-shade. Each stem reached about 12-18" tall.
Many martins have built nests on the old dock pilings.
Camassia cusickii, a recently discovered population of a species formerly known only from northeastern Oregon. Since it directly adjoins a railroad line that was active in the 19th Century, it may have been brought here by human agency, but is clearly naturalized.
