Heron grabbed it from the beaver damn at the bridge, and tried for 20 minutes to eat it. He ended up throwing it into the water and walking away.
Fell out of nest. Still cared for by parent. Placed in an ice cream container with holes in bottom and leaf material attached to tree trunk near nest. See associated sighting.
I noticed this oddly colored chickadee at the feeder. Anyone know why this chickadee looks so different? We regularly see black-capped chickadees and chestnut-backed chickadees at the feeder.
I found this chickadee in the woods in Medina. This bird is very fat and is about 8 inches long.
Check out this video for a real treat and see the chickadees using a lamppost in the city for their nesting site:

Possible BCCH or hybrid. Among group of Carolinas that made its slower call very conspicuous.
Note whitish secondaries and messier bib. Didn't appear much larger body-wise than CACHs in flock.
However notice the length of tail. Compare with very obvious Carolina observation nearby with rapid CACH calls: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/193323079

Another BCCH candidate seen at same location in November: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/191102608
This observation lies within the hybrid zone.
