Peculiar behaviour. Got a few quick photos before they (presumably) woke up and flew off.

The snake couldn't get the lizard in its mouth because the lizard bit and held on to its own tail. The snake eventually gave up and let the lizard go.

AI was 'pretty sure' this was genus Holcopasites but none recorded in California.
Found on trail.

Gall on Big Saltbush (Atriplex lentiformis).
These galls were everywhere on many of the big saltbush plants.
First time I see molts on the outside of a gall.

Discovered the live swell shark egg casing at Cabrillo NM intertidal zone after a winter storm. Video shows a very active swell shark embryo.
