18 March 2021: Seven river otters from southern Louisiana were released by NM Dept. Game & Fish on the Rio Grande near Arroyo Hondo, New Mexico to augment the existing reintroduced population in the Rio Grande basin of northern New Mexico. This was the first such release since the initial reintroduction efforts in 2008-2010.
