Now, you might be wondering why there's a bucket of state-endangered salamanders. This is from a research project associated with the University of Illinois tagging and assessing these salamanders, and they had 278 scattered across multiple buckets. They graciously let me watch them do their research for a bit. I, an individual with no permits, did not handle the salamanders.

This guy was sticking up from submerged riprap like he was pretending to be a banded water snake. This was a first for me- seeing a mud snake in such a manner
