I rolled a log over and these two bees were resting quietly inside the ground in individual hollowed-out chambers.

Near Utica reservoir. Foraging on swamp onion. Could possibly be bombus californicus but I felt they tend to have more of a solid “mane” than this guy- please correct me if my ID is wrong

Note mites at base of wing (too fuzzy for ID).

Small bumblebees ? were using a small underground area as a hive ? which they accessed through tubes apparently of their own making.

These bees were flying in and out of multiple bee-sized holes in the ground. They moved pretty fast.
