Date is approximate. 3 individuals (2 males & 1 female) seen sometime in April, 1987. My mother and father (@dmpeterson ) were living in Monteverde in the spring of 1987, staying with the Gavin family. I have been digitizing their old slides, and thought these ones were significant, so I uploaded them. The date and location are approximate, based on their best recollection.

A bright red/orange flowering plant. Appears to have simple, opposite leaves. Does not seem to be bearing fruit. Classic vein pattern with a main pattern running through the center of the leaf with a lot of small veins splitting from the main vein. Dark green leaves with a waxy appearance, belongs to the acanthaceae family.

Guzmania is a genus of over 120 species of flowering plants in the family Bromeliaceae
This specific species does not have an inflorescence but the flowers occurs in the center of the rosette, blooming one at a time over several months. There is no sent to this flower and it is not very colorful.
