Difflugia bacillifera builds its shell out of siliceous materials gathered from the environment: diatom frustules, cysts of golden algae, mineral particles, etc. The amoeba binds these "xenosomes" together with a secreted adhesive which we can see in the second and third images. "Rosettes" of this adhesive undergird the entire shell, and can sometimes be seen in the spaces between scavenged particles.

The photograph is of a specimen on a slide that was obtained by Manfred. On the back of the slide it indicated that the specimen was collected at the town of Elliot, NT, Australia, in 2016. There was no exact date / time of collection so to enable uploading of this observation the date 1/6/2016 :12:00PM was chosen.

The body length according to Manfred was 2.95mm.

The specimen was collected from the plant 'Acacia kempeana'.
