I think this is a black-naped orion. What is unusual is the beak. It seems to have a black beak (lower and upper part) and a single piece pinkish beak. From afar, the beak looks ribbon like. Black-naped orion with a defective beak, or perhaps a juvenile black-naped orion with its pinkish beak gradually replaced, or something else?

3rd April: This Oriental pied hornbill managed to get and kill a bat but was not sure what to do with it. It spent about 5 mins spinning it around, tossing it in the air before finally giving up and flying off.

A Black-eared Kite (Milvus migrans lineatus) #トビ loses its prey when attacked by two crows. An egret follows in the distance.

I was standing on the street, having just finished a conversation, getting ready to begin my planned walk with camera in hand. and had kind of noticed some noisy birds off in the distance. The sound from behind me got closer suddenly and so I turned quickly, pulling my camera up to my eye, and saw a confused flutter of wings coming right at me at high speed. I managed to snap a few shots blindly and the carcass landed on the road just a couple of steps away. The birds flew off. There were children around, so I picked up the carcass and tossed it down onto the river bank next to the road out of sight. At the end of my walk, a couple of hours later, I returned to the same place and found the carcass still there. Apparently, none of the birds fighting over it won.

Being eaten by a water monitor (Varanus salvator macromaculatus). The lizard started trying to eat it about 30 mins before dark - it was about 33 C during the day so probably would have killed the lizard to try earlier. It had to stretch and bend its whole body to push the snake into its stomach. Movement occurred in 1 or 2 minute bursts with a rest in between. Took the monitor about 30 minutes to swallow the snake.

Snake was dead before the monitor started. How it died is unknown.

Bird seen coming out of bushes, landed on path with prey, pecked at it, flew another few metres, again landed and pecked a couple of times. Not recorded. Flew in a low bush and..... Left twice a feed chicks in nearby known nest. Total recorded time: 4 minutes. Ended when another shrike appeared and the killer flew off with the remainder of the kill.
