I was sent images (by Alan Wells) of K. uthmoelleri from Nou forest, north of Babati (approximately 4° 2’ 7” S 35° 30’ 5” E). Kinyongia uthmoelleri is likely to be widespread on the Mbulu plateau.
Here is the photo by Alan Wells of K. uthmoelleri from the Nou Forest: http://www.flickr.com/photos/awells48/8594219312/ It should be noted that there is a T. sternfeldi-like species there as well (have added a note to the assessment for that species as well).
Annual CITES export quotas for K. uthmoelleri between 2002 and 2013 ranged from 20-80 (31 average) captive born individuals per year from Tanzania (CITES 2013). Between 1977 and 2011 (2012 and 2013 trade data is incomplete or unavailable) a total of 89 live individuals were exported from Tanzania for the pet trade (total of all commercial exports), of which 7 were reported as wild collected (UNEP-WCMC 2013). All commercial exports occurred between 2003 and 2011, during which time 4-18 individuals were exported per year (UNEP-WCMC 2013). No other trade is reported, although illegal trade and/or harvest may occur on occasion.
