We are seeking citizen scientist volunteers to help with a local amphibian conservation project. We are interested in recording data on ALL amphibians in the Arkansas River Valley, but are particularly interested in five locally rare species: Hurter’s spadefoot (Scaphiophus hurterii), Plains spadefoot (Spea bombifrons), Crawfish frog (Lithobates areolatus), Western narrow-mouthed toad (Gastrophryne olivacea), and Strecker’s chorus frog (Pseudacris streckeri). This project is in collaboration with the Arkansas Game and Fish commission and is sponsored by a State Wildlife Grant. Citizen scientists are needed to conduct call surveys during the season of amphibian activity, February – October, throughout the river valley region.

Some guidelines for the project:
- We welcome one-time observations, but are particularly interested in sites that you can visit multiple times throughout the season. Pick a few sites and try to visit them each week or every other week. Some species only call early in the spring, while others begin calling mid-summer. Some species may only call for a week, while others may continue to call for a month or longer.
- It is just as important to record EACH species that you hear at a particular site.
- If you are not sure of the identity of a species, please indicate that you need help identifying the species and provide a photo and/or sound clip. It is very important to provide accurate data.
- Please leave the "Geoprivacy" setting to "OPEN." Location information is a very important part of this study.
- Please create a separate entry for EACH amphibian species that you heard calling at each locality.

By providing quality data to this project, you are assisting in the conservation of local amphibian species. We are particularly interested in engaging citizen scientists so that we can gain more information on the status, distribution, habitat, co-occurring amphibian species, and breeding seasons of our five target species. The results from this study will help prioritize the needs of our amphibian species and identify goals for species specific conservation. Thank you for participating!
