Jim & Lynne Weber

Lynne & Jim Weber retired after a combined 70 years at IBM Corporation. Both are certified Texas Master Naturalists (Lynne is past president of the Capital Area chapter). Volunteer activities have included:

• Golden-cheeked Warbler surveys, guided hikes, property monitoring & invasive plant mapping/control for the City of Austin Wildland Conservation Division
• Colima Warbler surveys for the National Park Service in Big Bend National Park
• Lepidoptera curating & outreach for the University of Texas Insect Collection
• Certified Habitat Stewards for the National Wildlife Federation & stewards of a private 8-acre preserve now part of the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve System in Austin
• Consultants on native plant wildscaping
• Nature writers & photographers for newsletters & other publications

Lynne has served on the Big Bend Natural History Association (BBNHA) Board of Directors and the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve Citizens Advisory Council. Jim has served as a member of the BBNHA Advisory Board and the Board of Directors for the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute.

To date, the Webers have published five natural history books, all with Texas A&M University Press: Nature Watch Austin: Guide to the Seasons in an Urban Wildland (2011), Nature Watch Big Bend: A Seasonal Guide (2017), Native Host Plants for Texas Butterflies: A Field Guide (2018), Native Host Plants for Texas Moths: A Field Guide (2022), and Naturalist's Austin: A Guide to the Plants and Animals of Central Texas (2024). They are currently working on a field guide to the plants and animals of the Big Bend region (TBD).
