iNaturalist iPhone app now lets you explore over 5,000 parks to celebrate the IUCN World Parks Congress 2014-11-14

To celebrate the IUCN World Parks Congress (WPC) happening right now in Sydney, Australia, iNaturalist has launched a major iPhone app update that lets you explore wildlife sightings from within parks across the globe.

Courtesy of the IUCN and the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre with support from the National Geographic Society, the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum, and Parks Canada -- a recognized global leader in conservation -- you can now use the iNaturalist iPhone app to search for wildlife in over 5,000 national parks from the World Database on Protected Areas.

iNaturalist is a natural history social network operated by the California Academy of Sciences connecting a global community of over 60,000 naturalists to share over a million nature sightings.

This upgrade is a pilot focused on the Inspiring a New Generation Theme of the World Parks Congress, with the goal of connecting people to nature. The app is available now for download and will be will be used by participants in Sunday’s WPC BioBlitz at Sydney Olympic Park.

Check out the iNaturalist BioBlitz Guide to learn how to set up your own BioBlitz project on iNaturalist.
