Several plague skinks running around in the sun outside the entrance to Arataki Visitor Centre. Short video in the video link field.
Shiny. Light brown in colour with numerous darker brown stripes.
These 2 skinks were observed by lifting the layers of an artificial lizard shelter.
Possibly O. inconspicua 'Oteake' - torpid on a cold morning
Northern grass skink. Small juvenile, ony a few centimetres long. Unusual to see them here in mid-winter, which highlights how unusually warm it has been
Found under a rock. Quite active despite the temps being close to freezing. Found another, smaller one, too. Both released unharmed where found.
