Accidentally flushed meadowlark off this nest - medium, stocky bird with long bill, short pointed wings and short tail with outer tail feathers white, mottled brown back pattern, definite Western Meadowlark. It was on this nest, on the ground. We left the area quickly so the bird could come back sooner.
I think D. farinosa is the only Dudleya that grows out here. There were many of these, but notably only tiny plants. I assume this is one of the locales that got heavily poached.
