Lilan Forsyth's Journal Entries

1 The Eastern Gray Squirrel once belonged to a common ancestor who existed approximately 2.6 million years ago. The common ancestor evolved into six different species, but the one that is closest to the eastern gray squirrel is the Bryant's fox squirrel.

2 Due to the broad theme of our project and different location of plants and animals, I cannot identify an adaptation that all observed species have in common. However, it is noted that most plants observed are deciduous, meaning they are able to survive cold environments and lack of water by shedding their leaves and going dormant.

3 A unique adaptation of Northern Pacific Tree Frogs is their ability to change colour to adapt to their environment. The ability to camouflage is a defence mechanism to avoid being prey to larger animals such as the bullfrog.
