(NHIC) Rare species of Ontario

This is the official project of the Natural Heritage Information Centre (NHIC), Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF). Observations added here will be considered for incorporation into the provincial record of rare species observations and, if suitable, used to create or update Element Occurrences of provincially rare species using standardized NatureServe Core Heritage Methodology.

Only observations which meet the following rules can be added to the project:

• observer must allow project curators to view coordinates
• is georeferenced (i.e. is mapped in iNaturalist)
• is a species that is tracked by the NHIC (see Project list here: http://www.inaturalist.org/lists/570739-Rare-species-of-Ontarios-Check-List?rank=species)
• is observed in Ontario

For verification purposes, there is a strong preference for records with photos but records without can be accepted provided they include a description of the species and how/which similar species were eliminated.

**Please set your membership to allow project curators to view the private coordinates of your observations when added to the project by Project members, so that when one of the project members adds your record, we can access the private coordinates. This is really important because records that have obscured coordinates cannot be used by us for conservation and all of the species in our project will automatically have their coordinates obscured since they are provincially rare. פחות ↑
