Spring in Green-Wood: Mycoblitz and More

We are planning a Spring Mycoblitz May 1-3 as part of Green-Wood's participation in the City Nature Challenge. Join that project to keep up all the events happening in Green-Wood over the weekend. An EventBrite sign-up for our initial Mycoblitz foray will be published soon. And additional details about how to contribute throughout the weekend will be also provided here.

Fungi are Starting to Pop

Recent rains and warmer weather are creating mycological stirrings in the Cemetery. Check out the latest findings here. Get out there, enjoy this beautiful season, and find those mushrooms!

I am a little confused about the intersection of the fungi project and the City Nature Challenge. I thought the latter was taking place this weekend and included photos of all wildlife, and the fungi project was ongoing. Can you clarify?

This first meeting/foray of the Green-Wood Fungi Phenology Project coincides with the City Nature Challenge that Green-Wood Cemetery is sponsoring. It is really the kickoff event of the Project, whose mycoblitzes will be scheduled throughout the year. The CNC is running from 4/30 to 5/3, but the Project is a long-term survey that will last at least through the end of the year. Our Spring Mycoblitz should be thought of as a part of Green-Wood's large CNC effort. For this weekend and Monday, iNaturalist observations made in Green-Wood can be counted in both the Project and the CNC.

Hope this helps.
