Wild Asparagus Phylogenic Placement, Common Bright Colour and Golden Rod Adaptation
1) Wild asparagus (asparagus officinalis) has the most recent common ancestor species of asparagus fallax, garden asparagus, asparagus stipularis and 41 other species. It is a perennial flowering plant species in the genus Asparagus.
2) Despite varying locations and slight differences in climates our observations have some common traits that occur due to the evolutionary advantage these traits allow for. Brightly coloured leaves, flowers or seeds contrast different parts of the plant and its surroundings allow for the attraction of pollinators which in term helps with reproduction. This bright colour is common to our flowering plant observations.
3) Golden rods (Genus Solidago) have many small flowers on each stem bunched together to allow for easier and more common pollination by pollinators such as bees. One bee is able to collect and drop pollen to many flowers efficiently due to the close proximity.
