I am a volunteer at Brazos Bend State Park near Houston, TX. This is a park with several different ecosystems in it, but the primary system is wetlands. It is home to a large population of American Alligators, and is a popular birding sight as well. Right now, one of my favorite activities is a program I call Micro-Monsters. I draw several buckets of water from the lakes in the park and look for very small organisms in it. I then display these creatures to park visitors using a small digital microscope attached to a laptop computer. It's a very popular program, especially when I hand out magnifying glasses and pipettes to the kids and invite them to look for stuff with me.
