I joined inaturalist in 2016, but neglected to enter anything until 2020, when I was invited to join an insect project and thought it would be a good opportunity to learn more about insects. I am interested in all living things, but have spent the most time studying birds, mammals, and amphibians. I live on the lower Columbia River in Washington state, U.S.A., where I co-own and guide for Columbia River Kayaking, mostly leading tours focusing on the natural and cultural history of the area. My master's degree is in environmental studies. I have taught environmental science and field biology at Clatsop Community College, have monitored endangered "Streaked" Horned Larks on Columbia River islands, and have compiled the Wahkiakum Christmas Bird Count since 1998. I am lucky to live on small farm surrounded by state forest with a creek running though it where Chinook, Coho and Chum Salmon come to spawn.
