Sitting on the top of a bush. Thought it was a towhee at first; it was big with a fairly plain brown back.

The pickleweed throughout the preserve was pretty sad and dead; all dry and grey except for the tips of the plants.

Hedge around the mystery cottage thing. Planted once upon a time, and seems to receive irrigation still, so not wild or naturalized.

Very very small, all alone. Dark bill and yellow legs. Wish my good camera hadn't run out of batteries.

Okay, this one I think is a first-year Western. Darker than the other one, with darker wing tips.

I somehow didn't take any photos of the various huge domestic and wild geese all over the place. Here's one in the background, surrounded by American Coots, a clump of Canada Geese, and a pair of Mallards.

I saw your name on the screen at the end of the day and I was like "What! Sea-kangaroo is here! And I was looking around the room trying to find you but it's not like I know what you look like. I thought about asking someone, but I chickened out.
Haha, I know! I saw your name like a day later. Maybe we should wear hats with our icon animals on them?
Where did you see notice about the 'blitz?
Hm, I guess I don't actually know. I thought I'd read about it in a journal post from grrylfalcon, but I can't find it mentioned in her journal or the San Mateo County project one. So I guess either somewhere else on iNat or maybe by seeing it on the front page of Nerds For Nature.

I, for one, bear a striking resemblance to my icon animal.
Well, my icon is tree-kangaroos, so while there's a strong family resemblance they lack my magnificent tail fin.
Thanks for the links -- and i'm delighted to see a blitz coming up where i've been doing King Tide photography. Some more Greco island photos two weeks after this tide will be great to get.
Does the question of icon resemblance mean i have to wear this hat even if its not freezing? I'll melt.
